Song ideas
What makes a good audition song?
- Audition songs are usually around 16-32 measures long (about 60-90 seconds)
- Pick something that highlights your voice. Don’t pick a song that doesn’t make you feel confident.
- If you are going after a certain part, pick a song that sounds like it could be sung by the character you’re hoping to be.
- For example, If auditioning for Chip in Beauty and the Beast, choose a song sung by a child like character, like Simba from Lion King, or Michael in Elf.
- If you are auditioning for a character like Belle, choose a song sung by a different leading lady character (maybe even another princess song).
- Please do not bring accompaniment that has voices on it. We want to hear you and only you during your audition.
- Please don’t sing acapella (without instrumental accompaniment). It’s much easier to stay in tempo and on key if you have at least a piano to help you.
- Youtube is one of our favorite resources for accompaniment tracks. You can find pretty much anything there.
