Milford Youth Theater wants you to be successful. We know auditions can be scary, especially for new and young performers! Here are some tips to shake those nerves!
- START YOUR AUDITION by stating your full name and age.
- SPEAK CLEARLY in a loud, confident voice.
- BE PREPARED. If you’re singing a song or reading a monologue, have it memorized. It shows your dedication and willingness to prepare on your own.
- MAKE EYE CONTACT. It’s much easier to connect with the directors behind the table (and for them to connect with you) if you look at them. We’re nice, we promise.
- When you’re reading your monologue or audition scenes, MAKE A CHARACTER CHOICE. The only wrong choice is no choice!
- GET INTO THE ROLE. Our team will see over one hundred kids during audition rounds, try to make an impression!
- BE OPEN TO TRYING NEW THINGS. The director may ask you to read for something unexpected. Always say yes and be open minded.
- Don’t try to guess what the director is thinking, that could make you nervous! All MYT directors do their best to make the environment as welcoming and encouraging as possible.
- Don’t forget to BREATHE. When in doubt, close your eyes, take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. You got this!
- Remember that you’re telling a story. Be innovative, creative, and inspiring, know that the audience eagerly awaits your words and expressions.
- BONUS TIP… Have Fun!!!
